Volunteer at the BOOK CHALET
If you love books, the Friends of the Library's Used Book Store, is the place to volunteer!
A Book Chalet volunteer's primary task is to welcome visitors and sell used books. If interested, volunteers may also price and shelve books per established guidelines. The end-of-day shift is responsible for tallying the day's receipts. Stop by and chat with a volunteer! If you're interested in helping out, call Book Chalet at 760-924-2593, leave your contact information with the Mammoth Lakes Library, 760-934-4777, or fill out the library's contact form, with Book Chalet Volunteer in the subject line. Volunteers must be members of the Mammoth Lakes Friends of the Library ($10 annual membership or volunteer hours in lieu of).
The Book Chalet is open Tuesday-Saturday, 12 pm - 4 pm, during the fall and winter (October 1 to March 31), and 12 pm - 5 pm during the spring and summer (Apri 1 to September 30). There are 2-hour shifts avavilable in winter and 2 1/2 hour shifts in summer, with one volunteer working each shift. During the summer, the store is also open 10 am - 12 pm on Saturdays.
Vintage Books Subcommittee
The Vintage Books Subcommittee sells donated used books that are more valuable than our regular bargain-basement book sale prices, due to age, first edition status, signatures of authors, or other collectible characteristics. This committee of volunteers researches, evaluates, and prices these books for either internet sales or MLFOL book sales. Volunteers must be computer literate with access to a computer (library computers are available as is one-on-one training).
Volunteer shifts are scheduled on a weekly rotational basis. Duties include monitoring selected websites for offers to purchase MLFOL vintage books, then shipping those that are purchased. This entails a minimum of three (3) hours in assigned weeks.
This subcommittee also sets up and staffs the Vintage Book sales at the Friends' book sales.
