MONO COUNTY LIBRARY CHILD SAFETY POLICY

Purpose Statement

The safety and welfare of children at the Mono County Library System is of up most importance. Parents and caregivers are responsible for monitoring the activities and regulating the behavior of their children while at the Library. Library staff will intervene only when children are left unattended or problems of safety, disruptive behavior or wellbeing occur. Library staff will follow established Library procedure for the protection of juveniles or to maintain an environment free from disruption in accordance with the Library Conduct Policy.

Parent/Guardian Responsibilities:

Stay at the Library with children younger than grade 4.Encourage positive behavior by their children while in the Library.Cooperate with Library staff if their children disobey the Conduct Policy.Provide a means of transportation home from the Library by the time the Library closes.

Library staff will use the following guidelines in determining how to address an issue with a child on a case-by-case basis:

If a child becomes disruptive or violates the Conduct Policy staff will give the child one warning.Disruptive children will be asked to leave the Library if they continue to disrespect the Library Conduct Policy.Staff will attempt to locate the child’s parent, guardian or caregiver by phone to inform them their child has been asked to leave the Library.If a child is repeatedly asked to leave the Library, the child may be banned for a specific amount of time (e.g. one week, one month, etc.) to be determined by Library staff.
